CSK all-rounder Mitchell Santner expressed disappointment with the lack of opportunities in the IPL. The NZ star has played one match in IPL 2024. Santner joined CSK in 2018, but the combination and the presence of Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the lineup over time prevented the Kiwi player from getting many playing opportunities in the starting lineup. In six seasons, he has only appeared in 16 games for the Chennai-based franchise. In his IPL career, he has scored 67 runs and claimed 14 wickets.

This season, he had the opportunity to play at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala against the Punjab Kings. The left-arm spinner picked up three wickets in an economical spell and also took the wicket of in-form Shashank Singh. He also scored 11 runs at bat. While Santner acknowledged that there are moments when being out of the lineup is tough, he offers support his teammates during that period.

“Yes, there is undoubtedly an issue of not playing all the time. Although it could be annoying at times, I believe that the difficulty lies in maintaining focus when not actively playing,” Santner stated, “I try to help the other boys out, whether it’s at training or during the game and even have conversations with people.”

Even if he only plays two games a season, the Kiwi all-rounder stated that he always sets himself up to be ready whenever a chance presents itself.

With six wins in 11 games and 12 points to their name, CSK are placed 3rd in the IPL points table. On Sunday in Chepauk, the reigning champions will take on the second ranked Rajasthan Royals.
