Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has showered praises on the returning Ishan Kishan following his explosive knock in the second T20I against New Zealand, stating that playing such an attacking brand of cricket, especially when making a comeback after a long time, is not easy.

Kishan played a match-defining innings, taking the New Zealand bowlers apart with his fearless strokeplay and setting the tone for India’s dominant victory. His intent from ball one ensured the hosts stayed ahead of the game throughout the daunting chase.

Speaking about Jharkhand batter’s approach, Parthiv highlighted the difficulty of executing such style in international cricket after an extended absence.

"There was never any question about his ability. All of us knew how he can bat. The question was how he would bat while making a comeback. We are seeing Ishan Kishan's finished product here, but how those two years went, only Ishan Kishan can tell about how he worked hard and changed his mindset," the cricketer-turned-commentator said on ‘Star Sports’.

The commentator further pointed out that the 27-year-old, during his absence from the Indian team, worked hard in domestic cricket, and hence is reaping the fruits now.

"To come back after two years and get picked in the World Cup team, and to bat in the same way in international cricket, it's not easy. It feels great when you get success after making a comeback. All of us know how difficult it is to make a comeback. Ishan Kishan got the fruits of his hard work," he added.

Kishan came to the crease during a crucial phase of the chase, with India losing both the openers cheaply. He then stitched a match-defining 122-run partnership with captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Parthiv Patel equates Ishan Kishan’s batting style with Abhishek Sharma

The Gujarat Titans assistant coach further praised the left-hander’s batting style, equating the style with the current No.1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma for their explosive off-side game.

"Every left-handed batter likes that line.

If they get even a slight width, it becomes almost a natural shot for them, and it's the same case with Ishan Kishan, especially with the technique he plays," he replied.

It was a rare off-day for Abhishek, with him getting out on a duck after playing a match-winning knock during the first T20I. Ishan was named Player of the Match for his outstanding 76 off 32 balls.
