Mahendra Singh Dhoni has begun preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) facilities. The official Instagram handle of the JSCA posted a video of Dhoni padding up and picking up his bat, calling him the “Pride of JSCA”. “Look who is back. Pride of JSCA: Mahendra Singh Dhoni,” read the caption.
The 44-year-old announced his international retirement in 2020 but has continued to play in the IPL for the Super Kings. Following an injury to regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad early last season, Dhoni was appointed stand-in captain of CSK, which went on to finish last on the points table. The five-time champion won just four of its 14 matches and ended the season with eight points, tied with Rajasthan Royals.
Dhoni himself endured a lacklustre campaign with the bat, scoring 196 runs in 13 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17.
The upcoming season of the IPL starts on March 26.
