Cricket Australia Skipper and ODI World Cup-winning leader Pat Cummins has been named as the captain for the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. The decision was made public from the franchise's social media handles. Cummins will replace Aiden Markram after he was bought for a whooping ₹20.50 Cr. at the IPL Auction in December last year at Dubai. Given the amount that the team shelled out on the Aussie captain, it was a move that everyone saw it coming. "Our new captain Pat Cummins," the SRH mentioned on it's social media platforms, along with a picture of Cummins. Cummins has earlier played in the Indian Premier league when he was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the league. His stature as a skipper makes him the ideal choice for the SRH management to appoint him as the skipper of the team. Cummins led Australia to the WTC Championship win and the ODI World Cup triumph, where India emerged as the runner-ups in both occasions. Cummins will be the third Australian captain after David Warner and Adam Gilchrist to lead an IPL franchise. Both Warner and Gilchrist have won IPL titles in the past, and the onus will remain over the current Aussie skipper to get the franchise back into winning ways. Cummins will take over from Aiden Markram, who led the franchise in 2023 but did not find success while doing so. The Sunrisers have been the champions once in the past, and they would love to be back in the title race. Appointing Cummins as the skipper is a wise step to keep the team under a person whose leadership qualities has proven to be fruitful in the past.
