Sunrisers Eastern Cape Reach Sa20 FinalImage Credit source: SA20/X.com
Be it Chennai Super Kings in IPL or Perth Scorchers in BBL or Jaffna Stallions in LPL, all these teams have defined dominance in their respective T20 leagues. South African League SA20 team Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) has done something similar. The league's first and former champion SEC maintained its dominance in SA20 and made it to the fourth consecutive final. Sunrisers made it to the title match by defeating Paarl Royals by 7 wickets without any problem in the second qualifier match of the league. SEC, which has won this tournament twice, has entered the finals of every season of the league so far.
The second qualifier of the league was played on Friday, January 23, in which Sunrisers completely dominated. This franchise, which has played three consecutive finals and won the title twice, once again proved why it is the best team in this league. Sunrisers left Paarl breathless on the strength of just 21 year old young all-rounder. James Coles of Sunrisers first showed his magic in bowling and then in batting he blew away the entire team.
In this match, Paarl Royals batted first but the entire team could score only 117 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. For that, opener Kyle Verena played an inning of 52 runs. Apart from him, no other batsman came even close to this. For Sunrisers, Senyuran Muthusamy took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs, while Coles took 1 wicket for 15 runs in 4 overs. In reply, Sunrisers had lost 3 wickets for just 50 runs, but James Coles, coming in at number five, scored a quick 45 runs in just 19 balls and gave the team victory in just 11.4 overs. Coles hit 4 fours and 3 sixes.
As happy as the team's fans were with reaching the fourth consecutive SEC final, franchise owner Kavya Maran was equally happy. As soon as the team won, Kavya, who was present in the VIP box, jumped with joy and hugged her most special person. This person was none other than Kalanithi Maran, Kavya's father and owner of Sun Group, the company that runs the Sunrisers franchise. Indian businessman Kalanithi, who usually stays away from any match, also witnessed this special moment and was seen accompanying his daughter in happiness.
