Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for making Mohammad Hafeez a scapegoat and terminating him from the Team Director's role after the poor performance of the national side.

The legendary batter also urged that the country's cricket board should also give respect to former players, who are in administrative roles.

PCB had parted ways with Hafeez last month after Pakistan's 3-0 whitewash against Australia in the Test series and 4-1 T20I series defeat against New Zealand. Hafeez, who was roped in for the Australia and New Zealand tours on a short-term contract, was promised a contract extension.

"Can someone explain the reasoning behind removing Muhammad Hafeez as team director but retaining Wahab Riaz as chief selector after the Australian and New Zealand tours?" Inzamam said on a TV show.

"Weren't both appointed at same time and given same responsibilities so why has only Hafeez been held accountable and not Wahab Riaz?" he asked.

The batting stalwart said that former players and captains need to be respected by the PCB's top officials while recollecting Chairman Zaka

The PCB Chairman no doubt is a highly respectable position but don't former captains and stalwarts deserve the same amount of respect from the top board officials," said Inzamam.

"We had a meeting scheduled at the PCB offices after this story about me having a conflict of interest as chief selector broke out. I was sitting with (PCB officials) Salman Naseer and Aliya Rasheed waiting for the chairman to come," he recalled.
