Australia's legendary batsman Damien Martyn has returned after fighting the battle of life and death. Martin, who suddenly fell ill with a fatal illness at the end of last year, has now recovered and returned home after struggling in the hospital for several days. Due to a dangerous disease like meningitis, Martin was kept in a coma for about a week, due to which his chances of recovery were slim, but surprising everyone from the doctor to the family, Martin not only recovered from it, but also soon returned home from the hospital.

Now the Australian star thanked everyone in a social media post and also remembered that dreadful time.

On December 27, Martin suddenly fainted at home, after which he was admitted to a hospital in the Gold Coast. Then this news broke the hearts of the Martin family, his friends and millions of fans and everyone was praying for his recovery. 21 days after this incident, on Saturday, January 17, Martin recalled that time in his post, writing, “On December 27, 2025, my life slipped out of my hands… When meningitis took over my mind and I did not even know it, I was put in a paralyzed coma for 8 days to help fight this terrible disease.

And I fought!”

54-year-old Martin, who was a part of Australia's 2003 World Champion team, said that no one expected his immediate recovery. He said, "After being given a 50-50 chance of survival, I came out of that coma after 8 days... couldn't walk, couldn't talk. And yet just 4 days later, to the surprise of the doctors, I walked, I spoke and I proved to them all that I deserved to be released from the hospital and start my recovery.

It's great to be back home, happy to be able to put my feet in the sand on the beach and start thanking all those people." Happy to have reached out in unwavering support for me and my family.”

Martin also thanked the ambulance service and the medical staff of the Gold Coast hospital. Martin, who played 279 international matches for Australia, said that the experience of these 3 weeks has made him realize how transient life is and everything can change rapidly. Apart from family and friends, he also thanked the thousands of unknown supporters who prayed for the star batsman.
