Team India are looking for a 2-1 win in the ongoing three match One-Day International series against New Zealand, and no ground other the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore can be a better venue, as the Men in Blue hold a terrific record in the format here. The game on Sunday, January 18 will be the eighth time that the Indian team will play an ODI match in Indore, and they will be hoping to walk away with a victory.
Coming into the City of the Foodies, the pitch in Indore dishes out as a spicy platter where batters can have a sumptuous meal of runs. Top-order batters — Rohit Sharma (205 runs in 5 matches), Shubman Gill (216 runs in 2 matches), and Devon Conway (138 runs in only match), who are slated to play on Sunday, hold an excellent record at this venue, and are expected to eat the buffet at the Holkar plate for the 3rd ODI, too.
Bowlers, however, can spoil the broth, especially the left-arm spinners. India's slow left-arm bowlers Ravindra Jadeja (6 wickets in two games) and Kuldeep Yadav (5 wickets in two games) have dominated with the ball in their hands in Indore. While Jadeja is the joint-highest wicket-taker at the venue alongside Sreesanth, Kuldeep is joint-second on the list, tied alongside the former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Speaking of the Indian team's record at Holkar in 50-over internationals, the Men in Blue have played a total of seven matches at the venue, and have absolutely dominated each time, winning on all the occasions. The first-ever match at this venue was held way back in 2006, where the Rahul Dravid-led Indian team had beaten Andrew Strauss' England by seven wickets.
Five years later, India hosted the West Indies in a bilateral series here, and the match continues to be remembered till date, as veteran opener Virender Sehwag had scored his first-ever double century, by smashing 219 in the day-night fixture.
Sehwag's score long-remained a record for the highest individual score in ODIs. India also achieved their highest-ever total in ODIs in the same match, as they got to 418-5. India's record in ODIs at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore
