Harleen Deol’s brilliant innings, UP Warriors registered their first win after 3 defeats by defeating Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets.

The eighth match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 was played between UP Warriors and Mumbai Indians on Thursday (January 15) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. UP Warriors captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Mumbai Indians, who came to bat first, had a slow start. Gunalan Kamalini was out after scoring 5 runs, while Amanjot Kaur played a composed inning of 38 runs in 33 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur could also add only 16 runs and the team looked under pressure.

After this, Nate Sciver-Brunt took charge of the innings and batted aggressively. He scored 65 runs in 43 balls, which included 9 fours and 1 six. In the last overs, Nicola Carey added 32 unbeaten runs in 20 balls. There was an important partnership of 85 runs in 44 balls for the fourth wicket between Sciver-Brunt and Carey, due to which Mumbai Indians scored 161 runs.

For UP Warriors, Deepti Sharma, Asha Shobhana, Shikha Pandey and Sophie Ecclestone got 1 wicket each.

The start of UP Warriors chasing the target was also not special. Captain Meg Lanning was out after scoring 25 runs and Kiran Navgire was out after scoring 10 runs. After this, Harleen Deol took charge of the innings and made a partnership of 73 runs in 49 balls with Phoebe Litchfield for the third wicket. Phoebe Lichfield scored 25 runs.

Harleen Deol batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 64 runs in 39 balls, which included 12 fours. In the last overs, Chloe Tryon along with Harleen added unbeaten 27 runs in 11 balls and helped the team cross the threshold of victory.

For Mumbai Indians, Nat Sciver-Brunt took 2 wickets, while Amelia Kerr got 1 wicket.

The overall result was that UP Warriors won the match by 7 wickets with 11 balls remaining and opened their account with 2 points in the points table, registering their first win in WPL after three defeats.
