Big Bash League: In the Big Bash League, there are often some rules which increase the excitement in cricket. Now another such rule is going to come in the next season of Big Bash League which can benefit many veteran players who are on the verge of retirement. Cricket Australia announced on Thursday that in the 16th season of the Big Bash League, all the teams will be able to name a special batsman who will only bat and will not be allowed to field or bowl. Apart from this, if the same team also names a fielder, he will be able to do wicketkeeping or fielding but he will not be allowed to bat.
Under a new rule applicable for BBL16, from next season teams will be able to name a designated batsman and a designated fielder. As per the rules, teams will have the option to choose a designated batsman before the toss. This player can bat but will not be allowed to field or bowl. Upon change of innings, the batsman will exchange positions with the designated fielder, who can only field or keep wickets, but will not be able to bowl.
Although this rule will not be necessary. If any team does not want to name the designated batsman, then they will be able to take the field under the traditional playing eleven. This rule will also be in men's tournament. This rule will not be used in WBBL.Big Bash League General Manager Alistair Dobson said, 'We always wanted innovation in Big Bash and that is why we are introducing the rule of designated batsman. This will increase more excitement. Every fan wants the most explosive batsmen and brilliant fielders to play as many matches as possible and we are excited to see how clubs use this rule.
