Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently termed the exclusion of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL as an unfair and unusual step. After this, cricket relations between India and Bangladesh turned sour. Bangladesh has refused to play T20 World Cup match in India citing security concerns and has demanded to shift its team’s matches to Sri Lanka.

BCB has written a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the second time, making a formal demand to hold its four matches in Sri Lanka instead of India, but till now no official response has been received. There is now less than a month left for the start of the tournament, and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul has confirmed that there has been no response from the ICC on the issue.

Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul said that Bangladesh will not make any compromise in matters of national security and honour. “We love cricket, but we will not play the World Cup at the cost of national security and honour,” he said. He also accused the ICC of not fully understanding the seriousness of the situation.

Despite this, Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced its team. Bangladesh will be captained by Liton Kumar Das, and Saif Hasan has been named the vice-captain. Mustafizur Rahman will also be a part of the team, while Jaker Ali and Nazmul Hussain Shanto did not get a place in the team.

T20 World Cup matches of Bangladesh
Bangladesh has been placed in Group C along with England, Italy and Nepal in the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh’s first match is scheduled against West Indies on 7 February at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After that Bangladesh has to face Italy and England at Eden Gardens itself. Bangladesh’s last group match against Nepal will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
