NEW DELHI: The crowd in Vadodara was left stunned as Virat Kohli just fell short of what would have been his 54th ODI century during the first ODI between India and New Zealand.
Kohli, who had been cruising comfortably towards three digits, paid the price for a risky shot and lost his wicket in a moment that left fans holding their breath.
Amid the heartbreak, one photo stood out and quickly became the highlight.
A young fan, clearly devastated, was holding a poster that read, “If Virat Kohli doesn’t make 100, I will not eat for a week.” The picture went viral as supporters shared their sympathy and amusement for the little fan.
Despite missing out on the century, Kohli continued his sublime run in the ODI format. He finished with 93 runs off 91 deliveries, including 8 fours and 1 six, at a brilliant strike rate of 102.20.
Stepping out, Kohli tried to go over the mid-off region but mistimed it, and Michael Bracewell took a brilliant catch to end a wonderful innings.
This marks his fifth consecutive 50-plus score in ODIs, signaling positive signs for India as they continue their preparations for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
