Jaipur . The dreadful face of speed was seen in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur on Friday night, when a speeding Audi car crushed people searching for life on the roadside in Mansarovar area. In this horrific hit-and-run accident that took place near Kharabas Circle of Journalist Colony police station area, Bhilwara resident Ramesh Bairwa died, while about 16 people were injured. The condition of four of these is said to be serious. This accident not only took one life, but also raised many questions on the city’s night life, speeding and law and order.

According to eyewitnesses, the white colored Audi car was running at a speed of about 120 kilometers per hour on the busy road of Mansarovar at around 9:30 pm on Friday night. It is being told that the Audi was racing with some other car. Due to sudden loss of balance, the car first hit the road divider and then went out of control and rammed into 10 to 12 food stalls and carts situated on the roadside. In just a few seconds, there was devastation within a radius of about 30 meters. Carts overturned, food items scattered and people started screaming. The car went about 100 feet and stopped after hitting a tree.

Ramesh Bairava, who was working as a helper at the food stall, was seriously injured in this accident. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but died during treatment. Other people injured in the accident were admitted to SMS Hospital and Jaipuria Hospital. Some of the injured were discharged after first aid, while the serious injured are undergoing treatment.
The most shocking thing that has come to light is that the Audi car which caused this disaster is registered in the name of Shri Ramakrishna Charitable Trust. Police investigation has also revealed that Churu resident Dinesh Kumar, who was driving the car at the time of the accident, was in an intoxicated state. After the accident he fled from the spot. However, the people present at the spot and the police caught another accused, who is being interrogated.

Police have seized the Audi car and CCTV footage is being scrutinized. Preliminary investigation has revealed that high speed, drunken state and passion for racing could be the main reasons for this accident. Police are also investigating how many people were in the car and whether the absconding accused had consumed alcohol or other intoxicants.

This accident raises serious questions on the increasing hit-and-run incidents and high-speed driving in Jaipur. On one hand, a poor family was deprived of its support, while on the other hand, the love for expensive cars and speed crushed both the law and humanity.
