In the first match of the Women’s Premier League 2026, Richa Ghosh did wonders behind the wicket. Richa’s agile stumping during the Mumbai Indians innings surprised everyone. At the same time, this stumping reminded the fans of MS Dhoni.

A special moment was witnessed in the opening match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 on Friday, 09 January between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. RCB wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh added excitement to the match with her fast-paced stumping and sent England’s star all-rounder Nate Sciver-Brunt to the pavilion for just 4 runs.

This incident happened in the seventh over of Mumbai Indians’ innings, when Nadine de Klerk was bowling. Sciver-Brunt, who was on strike, tried to play a drive, but the ball hit his pads and went straight to wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. Richa caught the ball in the blink of an eye and blew the bells. Replays clearly showed that Sciver-Brunt was out of the crease, after which he was declared out.

After this spectacular stumping, the audience present in the stadium and the fans on social media praised Richa Ghosh a lot. For many people, his style reminded him of former captain MS Dhoni, who has been showing his agility behind the wicket on similar occasions.

Talking about the match, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Mumbai Indians had a shaky start and lost early wickets early. However, later there was an important partnership of 82 runs in 49 balls for the 5th wicket between Nicola Carey (29 balls, 40 runs) and Sajeevan Sajna (25 balls, 45 runs), on the basis of which Mumbai Indians scored 154 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Nadine de Klerk bowled brilliantly for RCB and took 4 wickets, while Lauren Bell and Shreyanka Patil got 1-1 success.
