Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed concern over India’s chances of reaching the final of the 2025–27 World Test Championship, admitting the road ahead looks increasingly difficult.

India’s campaign has been uneven so far, with four wins, four losses and one draw from nine matches, leaving them with a points percentage of 48.15. Chopra believes the 0–2 home defeat to South Africa could prove decisive in the long run, especially given the challenging schedule that lies ahead.

According to Chopra, losing both Tests at home meant India dropped all possible points from that series, a setback that is hard to recover from in a tightly contested WTC cycle. He noted that while India managed full points against the West Indies, their returns from the England tour were below par, putting additional pressure on future assignments.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said India now need strong results away against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, followed by a near-perfect performance at home against Australia. However, he cautioned that expecting clean sweeps is unrealistic, even on familiar conditions.

Chopra highlighted that winning all five Tests against Australia at home is extremely rare, while a two-Test series in New Zealand has historically been a tough challenge for India. He stressed that relying on maximum points from these series after failing to secure even one win against South Africa is a risky proposition.

India are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for two Tests in August 2026, followed by a two-Test series in New Zealand later that year, before hosting Australia for a five-Test series in early 2027. Chopra believes India will need near-flawless performances across these tours to stay in contention for a third consecutive WTC final.
