Reports suggest that three other family members of Shami have also received hearing notices to the SIR. However, the exact date and time for their appearance, along with the required documents, are yet to be confirmed.
Mohammed Shami and his brother, Mohammed Kaif, have been asked to attend a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing by the Election Commission. The notice, issued from Kartju Nagar School in South Kolkata’s Jadavpur, was sent on Monday. Shami, a registered voter in Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 93, which is under the Rashbehari assembly constituency, is slated for a hearing from January 9 to 11. Reports from NDTV suggest that Shami’s enumeration form was incorrectly filled. As he is currently representing Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot, he missed the Monday hearing.
Though Shami comes from Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata has been his home for many years because of his cricket career. He made the move from UP to Kolkata at a young age, following the counsel of his coach. Shami’s cricketing talent was noticed by coach Sambaran Banerjee, who allowed him to play for the Bengal Under-22 team. This was where his career took off, and he also featured in the Mohun Bagan Cricket Cup.
After coach Sambaran Banerjee discovered Shami’s cricketing ability, he was selected for the Bengal Under-22 squad, which served as the foundation for his career. Shami also took part in the Mohun Bagan Cricket Cup. Shami, who has been in great domestic form, was not included in the Indian team for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand.
Reports suggest that three other family members of Shami have also received hearing notices to the SIR. However, the exact date and time for their appearance, along with the required documents, are yet to be confirmed.
While Shami hails from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, he is enrolled as a voter in KMC Ward No. 93 in Kolkata, which falls under the Rashbehari Assembly constituency. He has made Kolkata his home for several years.
