Key Points:
After the recent defeat in the Test, captain Shubman Gill has made a new preparation plan. He has suggested organizing a 15-day red ball practice camp before every Test series. He believes that with proper preparation the team’s performance will improve and India will be able to make a comeback.
Delhi: The year 2025 has not been easy for the Indian cricket team in Test cricket. The team had to face 0-2 defeat in the home Test series against South Africa. Earlier in November 2024, India had to face a clean sweep of 0-3 against New Zealand. Now with the aim of returning in 2026 and reaching the World Test Championship 2027 final, Test captain Shubman Gill has put forward a new idea regarding the preparation of the team.
Gill told plans to prepare for the test
According to a report, Gill wants at least a 15-day red ball practice camp to be organized for the team before every Test series. He believes that a major reason for poor results in recent times has been lack of time for proper preparation.
According to sources, Gill has suggested to BCCI that it is necessary for the players to get separate and full time for Test cricket. The captain is now more clear than before about his decisions and thinking. This can benefit the team in the long run.
India’s schedule for 2025 was quite busy. Just a few days after winning the Asia Cup, a Test series was played against West Indies. Apart from this, there was very little time between the T20 series against Australia and the Test in South Africa.
The schedule for 2026 is also not easy. Many ODI and T20 series are already scheduled, so organizing a 15-day camp before each Test can be challenging.
The report also said that if head coach Gautam Gambhir remains busy with the white ball team, then VVS Laxman may be given the responsibility of the red ball camp.
