Former India batter Aakash Chopra has said that the Kolkata Knight Riders will be preparing spin-friendly pitches in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League
KKR will be taking on SunRisers Hyderabad in their opening match in IPL 2024 on March 23.
KKR splashed the cash on some big-name players in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, making Australia pacer Mitchell Starc the highest-paid player in the history of the competition. Their spin-attack remains one of the most potent in the league, with the likes of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma and Mujeeb ur Rahman in their squad.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said KKR's strategy will be to prepare spin-friendly pitches, while backing Sunil Narine to play all the matches for them. KKR finished seventh in IPL 2023, winning six and losing eight of their 14 matches.
"As soon as I think about spin, I don't know why, but my mind goes towards Kolkata. Kolkata's strategy will be to make spin-friendly pitches. They have Sunil Narine, who always plays in the XI. He is not a wicket-taker, it's not that he takes four-wicket hauls, but he is always economical," said Chopra.
KKR signed KS Bharat (Rs. 50 lakh), Chetan Sakariya (Rs. 50 lakh), Mitchell Starc (Rs. 24.75 crore), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Rs. 20 lakh), Ramandeep Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Sherfane Rutherford (Rs. 1.5 crore), Manish Pandey (Rs. 50 lakh), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Rs. 2 crore), Gus Atkinson (Rs. 1 crore) and Sakib Hussain (Rs. 20 lakh) at the auction.
