The government has issued an order imposing an indefinite ban on the telecast and promotion of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Officials have clarified that this decision will come into effect with immediate effect and will continue till further orders.

An official order issued on 26 March confirmed that no IPL- broadcast, promotion or event coverage will be shown in Bangladesh. The statement said that this decision has been taken in public interest.

According to Bangladeshi officials, the order to drop Mustafizur Rahman from the team was given to them as a directive from the BCCI, while the government described it as a decision taken without any logical reason.

The government statement said that the people of Bangladesh are saddened, hurt and angry by this decision. Keeping this public sentiment in mind, it has been decided on the instructions of the concerned authority that the telecast of all matches and programs to IPL will remain suspended indefinitely. No IPL match or any program to it will be telecast till further orders.

This issue has become the center of discussion in Bangladesh after Mustafizur Rahman was suddenly dropped from IPL. Fans, former cricketers and experts are constantly questioning the reasons for this decision. Now the ban on telecast of IPL has made the matter more serious, making it clear that this controversy is not limited to cricket only, but has become a matter of sporting and diplomatic sensitivity.

This controversy is no longer limited to just the telecast ban, but its impact is also visible on international cricket and bilateral relations. Due to this, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has refused to send its team to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The board has cited security concerns and the advice of the Bangladesh government as the reason behind this.

This decision has come at a time when Kolkata Knight Riders released Mustafizur Rahman from their team following the instructions of BCCI. Although the BCCI did not directly mention the current state of India-Bangladesh relations as the reason behind Mustafizur’s exclusion, it did indicate that the decision was influenced by broader developments.

Following Mustafizur Rahman’s sudden exit from the IPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) called an emergency meeting on Saturday night. After this, an important meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Sunday, in which it was unanimously decided that the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India. This tournament is to start from 7th February.
