Modern-day great Rohit Sharma signed off 2025 on a high note. His 75 against South Africa in Visakhapatnam was his final innings of the year, helping him finish with 650 runs from 14 innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of above 100, solid returns in a year where ODIs were his only international format. Having retired from Tests in May and T20Is earlier, Rohit now plays only in the 50-over game.

As India moves into 2026 with an upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Rohit will have several milestones within touching distance. Already the leading six-hitter in ODI history, he can further extend that record. With just a handful of centuries separating him from climbing higher on the all-time ODI hundreds list, the coming months could see him reach more elite clubs.

Another major milestone Rohit Sharma can reach in ODIs is the 12000 run-mark. With at least 18 matches scheduled for India in 2026, including series against New Zealand, England, and West Indies, Rohit needs just 484 runs to breach the mark. Achieving this would make him only the sixth player in history to do so. Notably, most of Rohit’s 20,000 international runs have come in white-ball cricket.

With 94 fifty-plus already, six more in 2026 would make Rohit only the sixth batter in history to reach 100 fifty-plus scores in ODIs.

Achieving this feat would also see him surpass Rahul Dravid, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Mahela Jayawardene on the list. Rohit has been in fine form of late, and he would love to continue that in the coming series and the following assignments as well.

The former India skipper currently sits ninth on the all-time ODI run-scorers list with 11,516 runs.

He is just 224 runs away from overtaking Jacques Kallis (11,579) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (11,739). Given that India is set to play more than 20 ODIs in this calendar year and considering Rohit’s role at the top of the order, this milestone could soon be achieved by the 38-year-old.

400 ODI sixes mark

Rohit Sharma has been known for his six-hitting ability, and 2026 could see him push that even further. Currently on 355 ODI sixes, the batter has a solid shot at becoming the first player in history to hit 400 sixes in the format.

In the recent series against South Africa, the veteran surpassed Shahid Afridi's record for the most sixes in ODIs during the first match in Ranchi. Notably, the former Pakistani skipper held the feat for 15 years.

Indian batting stalwart Rohit Sharma already has 50 international hundreds to his name, and five more centuries in 2026 would see him equal former South African Hashim Amla’s tally, placing him ahead of legendary players like Brian Lara and Mahela Jayawardene. Given Rohit’s ability to convert starts into big scores, this milestone could be achievable.
