Delhi: Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have taken a big decision and released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their team. This decision was taken following the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has been officially confirmed by KKR itself.

Action taken after BCCI instructions

KKR said in a statement issued on social media platform X that BCCI had directed to release Mustafizur Rahman before the upcoming season. As per the orders of the board, the player was released from the team after completing all the necessary procedures and consultation.

Replacement will be available as per IPL rules

Kolkata Knight Riders also clarified that as per IPL rules, BCCI will provide them a replacement player. Further information in this regard will be shared at the appropriate time.

Will not be able to play IPL 2026 despite expensive deal

In the mini auction held for the 19th season of IPL, KKR bought Mustafizur Rahman for a huge amount of Rs 9.20 crore. The special thing was that he was the only Bangladeshi player to be sold in this auction. However, due to all the developments, it has now become clear that Mustafizur will not be able to be a part of IPL 2026.

Controversy increased after purchase

After the auction of Mustafizur, there was resentment not only on social media but also at the political level. The matter started gaining momentum, after which BCCI took cognizance of the situation and intervened.

BCCI Secretary gave instructions to KKR

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, citing recent circumstances, directed KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman. He also made it clear that if the franchise demands an alternative player, the board will provide that option.
