BCCI in action regarding Mustafizur Rahman.
Mustafizur Rahman Controversy: BCCI has directed Shahrukh Khan’s IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to remove Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from the team. This step was taken in view of the demands raised regarding the ongoing violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that in view of the recent developments, the board has ordered KKR to release Mustafizur. If the franchise demands a replacement player, the board will approve it.
Amidst the ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, opposition to Mustafizur Rahman playing in IPL has increased. Three Hindus have been murdered there in the last 14 days. IPL 2026 will start from March 26, while the final match of the league will be played on May 31.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam had appealed to KKR owner Shahrukh Khan to remove Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the team. He said, “When the whole country is angry and upset about the Bangladesh issue, we request them to drop that Bangladeshi player from the team.”
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey said that Bangladeshi players should not be allowed to play on Indian grounds in the IPL.
Narrator Devkinandan Thakur said that Hindus are being brutalized in Bangladesh, their houses are being burnt and crimes are being committed against their sisters and daughters. How can someone be so stone-hearted after seeing such brutal incidents, especially one who calls himself the owner of a team?
Apart from Devkinandan, Dhirendra Shastri and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya had also demanded the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the team.
KKR bought Rahman for Rs 9.2 crore
Rahman was bought by Shahrukh Khan’s franchise KKR for Rs 9.2 crore in the IPL mini auction held in Abu Dhabi last month. With this he became the most expensive player of Bangladesh till date in IPL.
Last season, Rahman played 3 matches for Delhi and took 4 wickets. He was included in the team by Delhi for Rs 6 crore in place of Mitchell Starc. Starc did not play the last league match due to preparations for the final of the World Test Championship.
