The 23-year-old wk-batter Parvez Emon is set up to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup as selectors prepared a 15-member squad for the showpiece event in February.
The BCB has announced the Bangladesh Preliminary Squad for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.
The preliminary squad has several surprising exclusions, including Jaker Ali and Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The exclusion of Najmul Shanto has raised eyebrows, especially looking at his recent form in domestic cricket. He is currently playing in the BPL 2025-26 and has been leading the chart of most runs in the BPL 2025-26.
He has maintained an average of 67.66 and a strong strike rate of 147.10. These numbers show his batting rhythm and confidence.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh national team management requested the BPL franchise Sylhet Titans to demote explosive opener Emon to no.4 so that they could assess him in his new role.
He eventually proved to be a satisfying batter at the position, scoring 169 runs at an average of 84.50 and a strike rate of 159.43.
“I will have to adapt wherever I play,” said Parvez Emon. “It is challenging, but I am enjoying it. For me, the team comes first more than anything else,” he added.
Parvez Emon made an unbeaten 33 runs in the final T20I against Ireland to help the hosts clinch the series.
“I think with him (Emon) at four, we are more balanced as he provides us with a vital left-handed option further down the order. He also possesses the game to shine at number four, considering he is quite comfortable against slow bowlers,” said a member of the selection panel.
“We experimented with Saif (Hassan) in various roles, so why not Emon?” Litton said while explaining the move.
Bangladesh national captain Litton Das, following the T20I series against Ireland, said he was pleased with how Emon batted at number four in the final game.
Bangladesh will play their opening match of the T20 World Cup against the West Indies on February 07 at Eden GardensKolkata.
