Will Usman Khawaja retire? (Photo: PTI)

Ushman Khawaja: Like last year many players retired from cricket. There were some who left only one or two formats. Similarly, retirement of players can also be seen in the year 2026. The name of the player whose cricket career will end first this year is believed to be Australian batsman Usman Khawaja. This is because speculations are being made loudly about his retirement. It has been claimed in many reports that the 5th Ashes Test to be played in Sydney will be the last match of Khawaja's career.

Khawaja can hold press conference before Sydney Test

According to the report of Telegraph Sports, Usman Khawaja can put an end to the speculations of his retirement by holding a press conference before the last Test of the Ashes series to be played in Sydney. However, Australian team coach Andrew McDonald had said that he had no information about Khawaja's retirement nor had the selectors told him anything about it.

Why is there news of Khawaja's retirement?

There is also a reason for the news of Usman Khawaja's retirement gaining momentum. Actually, after the end of the Ashes series, Australia has to play its next Test after 8 months i.e. in August next year. Usman Khawaja will be almost 40 years old by the time of that Test series against Bangladesh. That means, age will be on the decline. Which can then stop the Australian selectors from including him in the team.

Usman Khawaja's condition in the current Ashes

Even in the current Ashes series against England, Khawaja has been in and out of the playing eleven. Usman Khawaja played the first test of the series. But he was dropped from the second test. Then in the third Test, he returned to the team in the absence of Steve Smith, after which he was seen playing the fourth Test also. Meaning he played 3 out of the first 4 tests of the series. Usman Khawaja scored 153 runs at an average of 30.60 with one half-century in 5 innings of those 3 Tests.

It is clear that this performance figure does not seem to match the temperament of Usman Khawaja. This is a big reason which can stop the selectors from including Khawaja in the team for the series against Bangladesh in August.
