Former India Women's Cricket Team coach Tushar Arothe has been detained by Vadodara Police for possession of Rs 1 crore in cash without any satisfying explanation. The Vadodara Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) conducted the operation on Saturday, uncovering a substantial sum of money at Arothe's house located in the Pratapgunj area. The SOG's investigation into Arothe's financial dealings took a pivotal turn when they seized cash amounting to Rs 1.01 crore from his residence. The raid, motivated by a tip-off regarding suspicious financial activities, led to the recovery of "grey bags" filled with the noted sum. The operation also implicated Arothe's son, Rishi, who has had legal issues related to cricket betting and cheating. This new incident has raised questions whether Tushar Arothe and his entire family is linked with illegitimate financial transactions. When confronted by the authorities, Arothe was unable to provide a convincing explanation for the seized cash. His lack of a satisfactory response prompted the SOG to initiate legal proceedings against him, along with two other individuals, Vikrant Raipatvar and Amit Janit, found in possession of Rs 38 lakh. These actions were taken under CrPC Section 102, which grants the police authority to seize property believed to be connected to a crime. This is not the first time Arothe has faced legal scrutiny. In April 2019, he was among 19 individuals arrested for alleged betting activities during an IPL match.
