There was a record of taking maximum 7 wickets in men’s T20 International cricket. Till now only two bowlers were successful in taking 7 wickets in a match.
Delhi: Bhutan’s young spinner Sonam Yeshe has done such a feat in T20 cricket, which no bowler in the world could do before. 22-year-old Yeshe has become the first bowler to take 8 wickets in a T20 cricket match.
This historic performance was seen in the third T20 International match played against Myanmar. In this match played in Gelephu, Sonam completely troubled the Myanmar batsmen with her spin. He took 8 wickets for just 7 runs in his four over spell. During this, he also bowled one maiden over and his economy was only 1.75.
Earlier, the record for taking maximum 7 wickets in men’s T20 International cricket was only. Till now only two bowlers were successful in taking 7 wickets in a match. Yeshe left that record behind by taking 8 wickets and created a new history.
On the basis of Sonam’s lethal bowling, Bhutan all out Myanmar for just 45 runs while chasing the target of 128 runs. The entire Myanmar team could not play even 10 overs. Bhutan won this match by a huge margin of 82 runs.
Bhutan is currently leading 4-0 in the five-match T20 series. Sonam Yeshe is in excellent form in this series and has taken 12 wickets in four matches so far. The last match of the series will be played on Monday.
Not only T20 International, but before this no bowler had been able to take 8 wickets in any men’s T20 match. So far only two players have been able to achieve the feat of taking 7 wickets in T20 cricket. Colin Ackerman of Netherlands took 7 wickets in one match each in 2019 and Taskin Ahmed of Bangladesh in 2025.
Sonam made her T20 International debut against Malaysia in July 2022. Since then, he has taken 37 wickets in 33 innings of 34 matches. His bowling average was 17.37 and economy was 5.69. He also has one four-wicket haul and one five-wicket haul in his name in T20 cricket.
