Australia’s Laura Harris equalled the record for the joint-fastest fifty in women’s T20 cricket, a record she now holds alongside Marie Kelly, who did so for Warwickshire, back in 2022. Laura reached her half-century mark off just 15 balls, playing for Otago in the ongoing Women’s Super Smash season at the Molyneux Park in Alexandra. Courtesy of her excellence with the bat, Otago could chase down the 146-run target against Canterbury with utmost ease.

As the chase began, Laura Harris saw herself come in to bat No. 4, while her side still needed 100 more runs to win the match.

Wasting no time to settle in, she scored at an attacking pace for her 17-ball 52. Her blistering knock was laced with six fours and four huge sixes as well, making the target look extremely easy, as Otago breached past the finishing line in the 15th over.

This was the sixth half-century of her T20 career. Before this knock, Laura has had one more opportunity to break Kelly’s record, which also came earlier this year, as she also played for Warwickshire. Back then, she had scored a fifty off just 17 deliveries against Durham, an outing that also earned her a Player of the Match accolade, finishing her innings with a 21-ball 55.

The fastest half-century should mean the world to Laura Harris right now, as she is coming off a terrible season in the recently-concluded Women’s Big Bash League.

Playing for Sydney Thunder Women, she could amass only 69 runs throughout the season, averaging just 11.50. Her highest score in the WBBL 2025 was an unbeaten 21. The story wasn’t too different for her side, either, as Sydney Thunder finished second last with only four wins.
