India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana registered her name into history books on Sunday as she completed 10,000 international runs, becoming only the fourth woman batter globally and the second Indian to reach the feat. The historic moment came during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mandhana began the match needing just 27 runs to reach the milestone. Heading into the game, she had scored 9,972 runs across 279 international matches in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. With this achievement, she joins an elite list comprising Mithali Raj (10,868 runs), Suzie Bates (10,652), and Charlotte Edwards (10,273). Mandhana is now the second Indian woman, after Mithali Raj, to breach the 10,000-run mark in international cricket.

India entered the match having already sealed the five-match T20I series 3-0. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to bowl, hoping dew would assist the chase later in the evening. Opening the innings alongside Shafali Verma, Mandhana started brilliantly, allowing her partner to play the aggressive role. India raced through the powerplay, scoring 61 runs without loss in the first six overs. Mandhana reached her historic feat by pushing a full delivery towards long-on to bring up her 10,000th international run.

By the end of the 10th over, India had reached 85 without loss, with both openers well set. Mandhana was unbeaten on 37 off 31 balls, hitting six boundaries, while Shafali Verma continued her dominant run with 48 off 29 deliveries. The opening stand had already crossed fifty, giving the hosts a big advantage in the contest.
