Overview:

David has been one of the consistent performers for Australia and was named the Player of the Series against South Africa.

Tim David, who plays for Australia and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, suffered a hamstring injury during the ongoing Big Bash League, putting his participation in the global tournament in doubt.

David was in full flow for the Hobart Hurricanes against the Perth Scorchers when he sustained an injury on Friday. The 29-year-old pulled up his hamstring while trying to complete a double, immediately calling for a physio. He retired hurt after posting 42 runs off 28 balls and was upset as he left the field.

The big hitter will undergo scans to find out the severity of the injury. The BBL season will conclude on January 25, and his recovery period is a cause of concern for Australia for the T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka, starting on February 7.

“I felt something while coming back for the second run. It is not good, but I didn’t want to make it worse. We will have to wait and see,” David told Channel 7.

Earlier, he picked up a severe strain during the IPL that ended his campaign in the tournament. He was out of action for two months. Cricket Australia has been managing his workload, limiting his game time during the T20I series against the West Indies.

David has been one of the consistent performers for Australia and was named the Player of the Series against South Africa. He has recorded an average of 36.27 and a strike rate of 168.88.

Australia will have to submit the list of 15 players to the ICC early next month, and the selectors are expected to keep him in the squad despite his injury concerns. He played in the last two T20 World Cups and scored 74 runs against India in Hobart, showcasing his big-hitting ability.
