Matheesha Pathirana In KKR: Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) A mini auction is being held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, 16 December for the upcoming season of Sri Lanka cricket team’s fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana. (Matheesha Pathirana) He was sold for Rs 18 crore and with this he became the most expensive Sri Lankan player in the history of IPL. It is noteworthy that he was appointed as Kolkata Knight Riders. (Kolkata Knight Riders) Has included him in his squad by paying this huge amount.
Yes, that’s what happened. In fact, 22-year-old Mathisha Pathirana was available in the IPL mini auction at a base price of Rs 2 crore, which apart from Kolkata Knight Riders, strong franchises like Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants also wanted to buy under any circumstances. However, they did not have as big a purse as KKR, due to which they had to bow down last after 82 bidding and thus Kolkata bought Baby Malinga for Rs 18 crore.
Let us tell you that meanwhile, the only surprising thing was that his old IPL team Chennai Super Kings did not make a single bid for Mathisha Pathirana, who also had a huge purse available. Let us tell you that this Sri Lankan player was a part of Chennai Super Kings till the last IPL season, who kept him in their squad by retaining him for Rs 13 crores. But last season he could not do anything special with his bowling and he took only 13 wickets in 12 matches with an economy of 10.14. This is why Chennai Super Kings decided to release him before the mini auction.
Also know that this young talent of Sri Lanka has the experience of playing a total of 101 T20 matches in which he took 136 wickets at an economy of 8.58. He is one of the expert death overs bowlers, due to which he saw huge demand in the mini auction. Apart from this, he has taken 17 wickets in 12 ODIs and 31 wickets in 21 T20 Internationals for his country.
If we talk about KKR, they had landed on the auction table with a purse of Rs 64.30 crore. On the basis of this, till now they have added match winners like Cameron Green (25.20), Finn Allen (2 crore) and Mathisha Pathirana (18 crore) to their squad.
