Match 53 of Indian Premier League 2024 was played today (May 5) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). In this match, CSK defeated Punjab by 28 runs.

Hosts Punjab were set a target of 168 runs for victory in this match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, chasing which Punjab could only manage 139 for 9.

This is CSK's sixth win in 11 matches in the current season under the leadership of Rituraj Gaikwad. They have reached the third position in the points table. On the other hand, it was Punjab Kings seventh defeat in 11 matches.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the hero of Chennai Super Kings' victory. Jadeja scored 43 runs with the bat and also took 3 wickets.

Chasing the target of 169 runs, Punjab did not get off to a good start as PBKS lost 2 big wickets in just 9 runs. Prabhasimran Singh scored the most runs for Punjab. He scored 30 runs in 24 balls and also hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.

Jonny Bairstow, Riley Rousseau and Sam Curran failed to bat in the match against Chennai. In IPL 2024, Punjab Kings hero Shashank Singh scored 27 runs off 20 balls, but could not lead the team to victory.

Punjab Kings scored 47 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the Powerplay overs. Shashank Singh and Prabhasimran's partnership of 51 runs saw the team come back in the match. But in the 8th over, Shashank was dismissed for 27 runs and from here the real downfall of Punjab began. After this, Punjab Kings lost 5 wickets in just 16 runs. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could not even open his account and was dismissed on the very first ball. He was clean bowled by Harshal Patel. Harshal Patel and Chahar took 3 wickets each for Punjab. Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets.
