Delhi: Former Team India captain Rohit Sharma has made a big and emotional revelation regarding the defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. He told that after that defeat, the thought of retiring early from cricket had come to his mind. Rohit says that at that time he was completely broken mentally and physically.

This reaction of Rohit has come in the context of that tournament, in which the Indian team had reached the finals by registering consecutive wins, but missed out on winning the title in the decisive match against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit was completely broken after the final defeat

Rohit Sharma said that the defeat of the World Cup final was very heavy for him. He admitted that after that defeat he did not feel like playing cricket. According to him, this game had squeezed everything out of his body and mind. The dream which he had been cherishing since childhood, remained unfulfilled even after appearing in front of him.

He also told that after the final, he was struggling with himself for several weeks and was confused about what to do next.

Controlled himself and decided to make a new beginning.

During an event organized in Gurgaon, Rohit said that it was very difficult to accept that defeat, but he had also understood that life does not end there. He took it as a lesson and prepared himself to move forward.

According to Rohit, he knew that the 2024 T20 World Cup was going to be held in America and West Indies and he would have to focus his entire attention on that. He admitted that it is easy to look back today, but at that time the situation was very difficult. There came a time when he really felt that he did not want to play cricket anymore.

Love for cricket returned to the field

Rohit told that the comeback was not easy. He had to remind himself again and again that cricket was something he loved and dreamed of since childhood. He said that that dream was still in front of him and it could not be abandoned just like that.

It took time and a lot of energy to return to the field and start again, but gradually he collected himself and moved forward.

Big successes achieved under captaincy

Even after the disappointment of World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma continued the captaincy of Team India. After this, under his leadership, India created history by winning the title of 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.

However, now Rohit has retired from T20 International and Test cricket. Earlier this year, he was also removed from ODI captaincy, but he is still active in the 50 over format.
