Questions have been raised regarding the availability of Josh English before IPL 2026. Despite playing limited matches due to marriage, Lucknow bought him for a huge amount. Now there is a possibility of him playing more matches due to which Punjab Kings seem to be angry.
Delhi: There is a lot of discussion before IPL 2026 about Australian wicketkeeper batsman Josh English. 30 year old English was released from the team by Punjab Kings (PBKS). He had told the franchise that due to marriage he would not be available for the entire season.
PBKS raised questions on availability of English
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had informed all the teams that England would be able to play only four matches. Despite this, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) included him in their team for Rs 8 crore 60 lakh. After this, questions started arising whether there was some misunderstanding regarding their availability or whether the plan was changed at the last moment.
According to a report, now English can play in IPL for a longer time. Punjab Kings is not happy with this and is preparing to talk to the board on this matter. Punjab Kings had informed about the release of Inglis just 45 minutes before the last date of retention on 15th November.
English will not play the entire IPL season due to marriage
Inglis had told PBKS that his wedding is on April 18 and after that he will go on honeymoon immediately. Because of this, he could have been available only for 10 to 14 days at the end of May. But, now the news is that he can postpone the honeymoon after marriage and join the team soon.
During the auction, there was bidding for Inglis between the teams of Lucknow and Hyderabad. Ultimately Lucknow bought him for more than eight crores. This is about Rs 6 crore more than its previous price.
In the last IPL season, he scored 278 runs in 11 matches. His strike rate was quite good. He played useful innings for the team in important matches and helped it reach the finals. Now it remains to be seen when and how many matches he is able to play in IPL 2026.
