Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill are leading the franchises for the first time in the Indian Premier League. Gaikwad has had mixed results as a captain, but Gill has been ordinary. The defending champions CSK are still in contention for the playoffs, but Titans’ chances are almost over after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Gujarat were bowled out for 147 with no batter scoring a fifty.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 92 runs in 5.5 overs, which ended GT’s chances of any comeback. Although they took 6 quick wickets in a few overs, Dinesh Karthik took RCB home.
Former India player Virender Sehwag was not satisfied with Shubman Gill’s captaincy, calling him an ordinary skipper.
“Ordinary captaincy by Shubman Gill. He was not proactive and allowed the game to drift away. He should have brought on Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan in the powerplay overs, but he didn’t do that, and Virat and Faf accumulated 92 runs, which ended the chances of GT.
“Gill was poor as a captain and it was his mistake that cost GT the match against RCB. You need to be one step ahead of the opponents but Shubman was not,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
