Sourav Ganguly, former BCCI President, has spoken out against his decision to replace Virat Kohli as India's men's cricket captain with Rohit Sharma. Rohit replaced Virat as India's full-time captain after the latter stepped down from Test and T20I duties in 2022. Ganguly was the BCCI chairman at the time, and there were indications of a conflict between him and Kohli. Ganguly had previously stated that the BCCI had requested Kohli to reconsider his decision to stand down as T20I captain. Regarding the decision to replace Kohli, former India captain Ganguly stated that he saw tremendous promise in Rohit, given his success in the Indian Premier League. Rohit led India to the World Cup final on home soil last year, but they were defeated by Australia in the end. Ganguly stated that India was the best team in the competition and that he was not shocked by Rohit's leadership during the championship event. 'Look at the way he captained in the World Cup. Taking India to the final. I think India was the best team in the competition till they lost the final. So he is a good captain, IPL trophies. I am not surprised by the way he led. He became the captain when I was the BCCI president, and I am not surprised by the way he has led the team. I made him the Indian captain because I saw the talent in him, and I am not surprised by what he has done,' Ganguly told RevSportz. Rohit just guided India to their 17th consecutive Test series win at home. After losing the series opener against England in Hyderabad, India currently leads 3-1 in the series, with the last game in Dharamsala on March 7. Meanwhile, Rohit just lost his captaincy to Hardik Pandya of the Mumbai Indians.
