AUS vs ENG: Alex Carey has done wonders in the third test of the Ashes series being played in Adelaide. He has scored a century in the first innings of this test. This century of Australia's wicketkeeper batsman is special in many respects. The most important thing is that this is his first Test century against England. Meaning, for the first time in Test cricket he has scored in triple figures against England. In that respect, this is also Alex Carey's biggest innings against England.
Alex Carey faced 143 balls in the first innings of Adelaide Test against England and scored 106 runs, which included 8 fours and 1 six. During this innings he completed his century in 135 balls. This is definitely the first century scored by Alex Carey in Test against England. But overall this is the third century of his Test career.
Alex Carey stepped onto the Adelaide crease when England seemed to be dominating the match by reducing Australia's top 4 wickets within 100 runs. Alex Carey not only challenged that dominance. Not only did he face him bravely, but in the end he also managed to push England, who were looking dominant, onto the backfoot.
Alex Carey made 3 half-century partnerships during his innings. He along with Usman Khawaja added 91 runs for the 5th wicket. Then made a partnership of 59 runs with English for the sixth wicket and a full 50 run partnership with Starc for the 8th wicket. Thanks to these 3 partnerships, he was successful in taking Australia's score beyond 300 runs in the first innings.
Will Jacques took the wicket of Alex Carey. He got him caught by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
