Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has advised Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to aggressively pursue New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, citing his ability to add depth and balance to the side.

Five-time champions CSK will head into Tuesday’s auction in Abu Dhabi with a purse of ₹43.40 crore, the second-highest among all franchises, behind only Kolkata Knight Riders (₹64.30 crore). Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth underlined Bracewell’s all-round value and felt the 34-year-old could be an ideal fit in CSK’s middle order.

“CSK already have a strong batting line-up till No. 4 with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Aayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel. Batting isn’t a concern,” Srikkanth said, as quoted by The Indian Express. “If I were part of the CSK management, I would go for someone like Michael Bracewell. He’s being underestimated.”

Srikkanth highlighted Bracewell’s versatility, recalling his match-winning century against India in Hyderabad. “He’s a left-hander who can hit big, bowl quality off-spin and finish games. He’s a proper all-rounder,” he added.

The former India selector also suggested that Bracewell could flourish under MS Dhoni’s guidance. “Not many are talking about Bracewell. Everyone keeps mentioning Livingstone, but if Bracewell is backed and encouraged, he’ll deliver. Someone like Dhoni can groom him into a fantastic all-rounder.”

Bracewell has featured in only one IPL season so far. In 2023, he played five matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scoring 58 runs and picking up six wickets. He has registered for the IPL 2026 auction with a base price of ₹2 crore.

Srikkanth also offered strong opinions on players CSK should avoid. “I wouldn’t buy Ravi Bishnoi. There’s no scope there — they already have Shreyas Gopal. He’s a good bowler,” he said. The former opener was equally dismissive of David Miller, questioning his recent form and suitability to Chennai conditions.

“It’s been a long time since Miller scored runs, and the Chennai surface won’t suit him for half the matches. Instead of Miller, I’d rather pick Bracewell, who can also give you a few overs with the ball,” Srikkanth concluded.
