Rinku Singh: The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently announced the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has included Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shivam Dubey in the team who have been performing brilliantly in the IPL. But many players including Rinku Singh could not make their place in the squad. Fans and many cricket experts were very disappointed with this decision of the selectors. Now Ajit Agarkar himself has given clarification on Rinku not being selected in the team.

Rinku Singh's performance has been fantastic

Team India's strong batsman Rinku Singh has shown excellent performance in his short international career. Playing the role of finisher, he has led India to victory in many matches. Before the announcement of the official team for T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku was included in the team of almost every cricket expert. Due to his consistently good performance, his place in Team India seemed confirmed, but in the end he was put in the list of reserve players.

Ajit Agarkar gave clarification

On Thursday, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and Team India captain Rohit Sharma addressed the press conference. During this, Ajit Agarkar told why Rinku Singh could not become a part of the Indian squad. They said,

“Rinku Singh has not done anything wrong, even Shubman Gill has not performed poorly. Rohit wanted some wrist spinners in the team for more options. Similar is the case for Axar, who is a batting all-rounder. We thought he might be useful. It was difficult for us, but we had to pick a complete team.”

Rinku Singh, who showed excellent performance for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023, has not been able to do much this season. He scored 474 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2023 at an average of 59.25 and strike rate of 149.53. Talking about his performance for Team India, the left-handed batsman has scored 356 runs in the 17 T20 International matches played so far at an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.23.
