Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma and Chairman of the BCCI Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar addressed a press conference at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

They discussed about the 15-player Indian squad selected for next month’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and USA. They provided explanations for some of the most talked-about selection decisions for this major tournament.

In IPL 2024, Virat Kohli’s strike rate has become a national issue. Many pundits lashed out at Kohli for his low strike-rate against spinners in the middle overs, while some have also defended him.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar chuckled after they were asked about Virat’s scoring rate.

“We are not the ones who talked about Virat’s strike-rate. Look at his stats, he is performing exceptionally well in the IPL. He is someone who can walk in into any situation and take us to victory,” said Agarkar.

Though Kohli is the second-highest run scorer in the current IPL season, his relatively low strike rate of 147.49 has drawn scrutiny, with many arguing it is inadequate for the fast-paced demands of modern T20 cricket.

“He is in top form. To be honest, he’s an experienced player and a proven match-winner. I believe there is no point in overthinking about it. In the end, when you play in the World Cup, the pressure is different,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli also voiced his opinions on his critics saying , “It is easy to comment from the box. I have been doing this for 15 years. It’s like a muscle memory for me now.”

India will start their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5.
