Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar addressed the media in Mumbai regarding the recently announced 15-member squad, commenting on several topics regarding Team India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
BCCI recently unveiled the 15 member team for the T20 World Cup, where Shubman Gill, Sharma’s opening partner at the 50 over World Cup was listed as a travelling reserve and dynamic southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal secured his spot in the main team.
With 500 runs to his name in the ongoing IPL season, many experts urged the selectors to chose Virat Kohli as Sharma’s opening partner for the marquee event in June.
“All options are open. It could be Virat or Yashasvi, right now I won’t comment further on this,” remarked Rohit.
“My opening partner will be decided once we land. The team will first assess the pitch, the conditions and also the opposition team and their combination,” he further said.
Rohit Sharma then commented on the teams middle order,
“The top order is in great form and decided. Our main focus is on the middle order where batters come out and play according to the situation. We have certain options in our mind, which would provide balance to the batting unit,” he added.
“That’s why we have picked Shivam Dube, he bats freely and fires the bowlers. But still I wont reveal much because we don’t know the conditions. We’ll understand the pitch and then practice accordingly, then we will take the call,” he concluded.
