The Indian women’s squad for the home five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka was announced on Tuesday, with two promising youngsters getting their maiden senior team call-up.

G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both part of India’s Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, were named in the 15-member team.

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side, with Smriti Mandhana named as her deputy.

This will be India’s first T20I assignment since it lifted its maiden ODI World Cup trophy last month after beating South Africa in the final.

The last time the Women in Blue played the shortest format was between June and July earlier this year in England. India had won the series 3-2.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka last played 20-over matches in March against New Zealand. That series ended 1-1 after the third match was abandoned due to rain.
