The upcoming T20 World Cup will be played on the soil of America and West Indies from June 1. Many have announced their teams including Team India for this tournament. But Pakistan has not announced its World Cup team yet.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has postponed the announcement of the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The PCB said some players are struggling with fitness issues, hence the announcement of the squad has been postponed.
The ICC had given a deadline of May 1 to the teams participating in the T20 World Cup to announce 15 members. Teams can make changes to announced teams until May 25. This change does not require permission from the ICC or the World Cup Technical Committee.
According to sources, Pakistan will announce the squad for the T20 World Cup on May 23 or 24. The management and selectors are concerned about injuries to Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi and Haris Rauf and will test their fitness against Ireland and England.
The source said, “The delay in team selection does not matter as all teams can make changes by May 24. Subsequent changes will be made on the basis of fitness or injury and will require the approval of the Technical Committee. This is why the PCB and the selection committee have decided not to announce the squad until the first match against England.
Meanwhile, India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Oman and Canada have announced their World Cup squads.
