A day after announcing the cancellation of her wedding to composer Palash Muchhal, Smriti Mandhana, India’s vice-captain, was back on the training ground. Wearing a training jersey and protective gear, she was seen taking throwdowns at what appeared to be a private practice facility.

Shravan Mandhana, Smriti’s brother, shared a photo of her in action on Instagram, accompanied by heart emojis. The post went viral, with many on social media applauding Smriti’s resolve to return to the field during a tough time.

Smriti Mandhana, who played a pivotal role in India’s triumph at the Women’s World Cup 2025, will be back in action during a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, set to take place at home from December 21 to 30. The games will be held in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram, acting as a key part of India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup next year.

Smriti Mandhana is all set to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming Women’s Premier League, beginning January 9 in Navi Mumbai.

In an Instagram post on December 7, Smriti Mandhana requested privacy for both families during this time and assured her followers that playing for India will always be her primary focus. Mandhana wrote: “I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”

On the same day, Palash Muchhal publicly addressed the situation, stating that he had decided to “move on” from the relationship. He described this as one of the hardest times in his life and condemned the “baseless rumours” spreading about their relationship, warning of legal action against those responsible for false or defamatory content.

The much-anticipated wedding of Smriti Mandhana, originally scheduled for November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra, was delayed unexpectedly. The postponement was due to Mandhana’s father being hospitalized with a cardiac condition. Shortly after, it was reported that Palash Muchhal had also been admitted to the hospital due to stress.
