Harshit Rana Reprimanded for Breaching ICC Code of Conduct in Ranchi ODIs

The pacer Harshit Rana has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during 1st first ODI game in the South Africa tour of India 2025, where the hosts secured a 17-run victory at Ranchi.

The sanctions were handed after his awkward send-off to Dewald Brevis, an act which match officials deemed to be proactive and affecting the game of spirit.

According to ICC code of conduct, Harshit Rana was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers ‘language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.’

The incident occurred in the 22nd over, moments after he dismissed Dewald Brevis, when the fast bowler gestured toward the dressing room, which proved to be proactive.

Harshit Rana received an official reprimand and one demerit point, the first on his disciplinary recover over the last 24 months.

The pacer accepted the the charges and sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, ensuring no formal hearing was required.

India secured stunning 17-run victory in the first ODI after a stunning 135 run knock from Virat Kohli and fifties from Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

They posted a 349 run knock in their innings and went on defend the target with Kuldeep Yadav’s four wicket haul.

Despite solid knocks from Corbin Bosch, and Marco Jansen, KL Rahul’s side went on to secure 1-0 lead in the ODI series.

Meanwhile, India remained unchanged during the second ODI after the side lost the toss for 20 consecutive times. Meanwhile, South Africa made three changes bringing in Temba Bavuma, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi in South Africa’s lineup.
