NEW DELHI: Even though he has retired from T20Is, former India captain Rohit Sharma is keen to turn out for Mumbai in the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, TOI has learned.
Currently part of India’s ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa, the 38-year-old could feature for Mumbai in the knockout stage, scheduled to be held in Indore from December 12 to 18.
Having won all four of their league-stage matches in Lucknow and topping Elite Group A with 16 points, Mumbai are well-placed to make a deep run in the tournament.
“Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of SMAT,” a source from the Mumbai Cricket Association said.
Earlier this year, the BCCI made it mandatory for all India players to participate in domestic cricket when not on national duty or recovering from injury. The ODI series against South Africa concludes on Saturday.
