Delhi: In the second ODI being played between India and South Africa in Raipur, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored the first century of his ODI career. This is his first ODI century for the senior Indian team. Before this he has scored a century for India A, but this is his first big milestone in One Day International.
Ruturaj completed this century in 77 balls. During this, he hit 12 fours and 2 sixes. India’s innings became stronger with his batting. In this innings, he scored 108 runs in 83 balls and returned to the pavilion after being caught out by Tenny De Georgi on the ball of Marco Yanson.
It is also a historic century as Gaikwad now has the second fastest ODI century (77 balls) for India against South Africa, behind only Yusuf Pathan, who scored a century off 68 balls at Centurion in 2011.
Gaikwad also made a brilliant partnership of 150 runs with Virat Kohli. Virat also scored his 53rd ODI century. Both the batsmen together were taking India towards a big score.
It was necessary for India to score above 300 in this match because the pitch is good for batting. Last time in Ranchi, South Africa had chased the target of 350 runs hard.
If India wins this match then the team will win the series. This victory will also be important because before that Team India had lost the ODI series against Australia and had also lost 0-2 in the Test series against South Africa at home.
Ruturaj, who captains Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, has played 23 T20 International matches for India so far. In these matches, he has 633 runs in his name, which includes one century and four half-centuries.
This ODI match is only the eighth match of his career. In this, he scored a century for the first time in ODI and also crossed the 200-run mark. Before this he had also scored a half-century.
