India held their nerve in a thriller in Ranchi, defeating South Africa by 17 runs to take a 1-0 lead. Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI hundred anchored the home team's total of 349, supported by half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Despite cruising at one stage, India were pushed into backfoot by South Africa’s lower-order efforts.

With 18 needed off the final over, Bosch’s dismissal ended South Africa’s innings as they were bowled out for 332.
