Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced on Tuesday that he will not put his name in the auction for IPL 2026, drawing the curtain on an illustrious association with the league, at least for now.
Maxwell, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs. 4.2 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, endured a forgettable last season. He managed just 78 runs and four wickets in nine matches before being ruled out midway through the tournament with a middle finger fracture.
Since making his IPL debut in 2012, Maxwell has been one of the competition’s most explosive overseas performers. His standout season came in 2014, when he amassed 542 runs. He followed that with productive campaigns in 2017 (310 runs), 2021 (513), 2022 (301) and 2023 (400).
“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name in the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one made with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” Maxwell wrote on Instagram.
“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever. Thank you for all your support over the years. Hopefully see you soon,” he added.
