Irfan Pathan has urged fans to stop stressing over the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Reflecting on India’s narrow victory in the opening ODI of the three-match series, Pathan encouraged everyone to enjoy the final stages of their careers, without the weight of constant speculation.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma formed a key 136-run partnership in the first ODI at Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium. Batting on a flat wicket, the duo dominated the South African pacers after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early dismissal.

“Virat Kohli is truly amazing to watch. And with both of these players performing at such a high level, maybe it’s time for fans and experts to put aside talk of the 50-over World Cup for now. Let’s focus on enjoying their cricket and appreciating them while they’re playing,” Irfan Pathan said on his YouTube show, Seedhi Baat.

On Seedhi Baat, Pathan highlighted the impressive partnership between Rohit and Virat against the Proteas, which played a key role in India setting up a solid total of 349 runs. He particularly lauded Virat Kohli, expressing admiration for his remarkable mental and physical fitness. Despite not consistently training on Indian pitches, Kohli continues to perform in ODIs.

“The strength Virat Kohli brings is remarkable, especially considering he doesn’t live in India regularly and doesn’t always play on challenging wickets. He comes here and performs consistently. It’s not an easy feat, and it demonstrates the level he’s at and the mentality he possesses. A truly phenomenal mindset,” he added.

Reflecting on Rohit’s innings, Pathan noted that the batter might be regaining the kind of form that saw him dominate ODIs in various conditions between 2015 and 2019.

“Looking at Rohit Sharma now, he’s batting as if he’s in his prime. You wouldn’t guess he’s 38. His fitness has significantly improved, and the way he adapts to conditions and bowlers is a perfect display of batting. His innings in Ranchi once again highlighted the mindset with which he’s progressing. His form is clearly evident,” Pathan said about Rohit Sharma.
