Delhi: Now questions have been raised over the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches being held at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka government has clearly said that matches will be held in the stadium only when it proves to be completely safe. For this, the government has ordered an investigation into the structure of the stadium.
PWD asked for security report
PWD has sent a notice to Karnataka State Cricket Association saying that they will have to submit a detailed safety report. This report will be prepared by experts who have been certified by NABL. The government wants that the walls, galleries and other structures of the stadium should be capable of handling large crowds.
Reason for removal of match from Chinnaswamy
There was a stampede in the stadium during an event in June, in which 11 people were killed and about 50 people were injured. After this the government formed an independent inquiry commission. The Commission said in its report that the stadium is not safe for large crowds and holding an event here can be a threat to people’s lives.
After the report came, BCCI snatched the hosting of Women’s ODI World Cup from Bengaluru and gave it to DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Along with this, the matches of Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in 2026 were also not given to Bengaluru.
M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been the home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a long time and the spectators get a great experience here. But, after the new report, serious questions have now been raised on its safety.
